Thiessen wore a Vera Wang strapless A-line gown made of Lyon and Alencon lace and tulle, along with a matching cathedral-length veil. "As soon as I tried it on I knew it was the dress," Thiessen says. For added glitter she borrowed two pieces from Ehrlooms Fine Jewelry Designs in Chicago: an 18kt-white-gold bracelet with rose-cut and round diamonds in a floral motif, as well as Edwardian-style drop earrings with round diamonds set in cascading petals, leaves and flowers.

The female attendants — Zimmer and Jill Smith, the groom's sister — wore apple-green gowns, also by Wang. The groom and the men in the wedding party wore khaki-colored summer suits by Kenneth Cole.

Q. How do I get my nails to grow stronger? I've always had thin, brittle nails, and nothing seems to work!

"Not everyone has the genes for beautiful long nails," says Marsha Bialo, celebrity manicurist and OPI spokesperson, who has worked with Thiessen in the past. To make the best of what you've got, she recommends keeping nails short, and clipping rather than filing, which can cause splitting.

Bialo likes Nailtiques' protein base to strengthen weak nails, and OPI Avoplex cuticle oil, which is made from avocado. "Anything with fat in it will nourish the nail," says Bialo.

Also, wear gloves when washing dishes and apply lotion after washing hands (Vaselina makes a water-resistant one, $3.50; drugstores).

Another tip: Pop 1,000 mg of biotin daily. It's the best vitamin for brittle nails, says determatologist Diane Berson.
